first of its kind in the Brazos Valley region of Texas, the Marian Anderson String Quartet Chamber Music Institute celebrates its fifth season in the summer of 2010. Based in Bryan, TX, this intensive workshop is open to string players of all ages and levels who desire an opportunity to discover and refine their musical skills through chamber music guided by expert instruction. The Institute has been so successful that the City of Bryan and the City of College Station issued proclamations celebrating the Institutes contributions to both communities in 2009.
The Marian Anderson Community Music School will present the fifth annual Marian Anderson String Quartet Chamber Music Institute in the summer of 2010 from June 13th through July 3rd. (See Events category.)
The Institute was created under the concept that anyone who desires to shall have the unique opportunity to partake in the process of learning and performing chamber music by world-class teachers in an intimate and supportive environment. The 2010 program will serve approximately 70 students on violin, viola, cello, bass, flute and piano for two 10-day sessions from June 13th through July 3rd. As faculty, each member of the Marian Anderson String Quartet conducts daily coaching sessions for each student group. Private lessons are also offered upon request.
In addition to the intensity of daily rehearsals and coaching with an assigned group, the students participate in masterclasses, outreach workshops as well as formal performances of their own. The outreach activities within the Institute give students the unique opportunity to learn how to reach out to any segment of the community.
Each student participates in daily group classes taught by the Marian Anderson String Quartet and guest faculty. Students with the most successful audition win the opportunity to perform in a formal concert with the Marian Anderson String Quartet during the Institute. Complementing the nurturing environment established by the Quartet; students share social time in the gym, with Wii games and table tennis tournaments. Faculty, parents, staff and students eat two meals a day together and celebrate the midway point of the Institute with a traditional Texas BBQ.
“The “Andersons” devoted an entire week to participating children. They taught them, inspired them, performed for them, and even ate with them. Each member of the ensemble knew the name of all the 31 children, young adults and one adult participating. How many nationally acclaimed artists devote that much energy and attention to youngsters?”

Hello Members of the Marian Anderson String Quartet,
My name is Joshua Burgos Gonzalez and I’m a violist from Puerto Rico who currently resides in Philadelphia. I’m very happy that your quartet offers the opportunity to study chamber music in a setting such as described on the website. I was interested in getting more information and learning more about the program.
Thank you,
Joshua Burgos González
